Deciding to try acupuncture for the first time can raise several questions: Does it hurt ? Do you need to prepare in any special way ? What happens during a session ?
In this article, I explain in straightforward terms what a first meeting with me is like—whether in my Plateau-Mont-Royal space, just steps from Laurier metro and Laurier Park, or in Montreal’s southwest, in St-Henri, right across from Lionel-Groulx metro and a stone’s throw from Atwater Market.
A gentle welcome, at your own pace.
Whether it’s to relieve discomfort, support a pregnancy, or simply take care of yourself, the first appointment always begins with a compassionate conversation.
I take the time to listen to what you’re experiencing, what brings you here, and what you’re looking for. Together, we explore your health history, your lifestyle, and your current needs.
Don’t be surprised if I ask you about the frequency of your bowel movements or the quality of your sleep! All of this helps me to build a comprehensive energetic picture of your overall health.
A personalized approach.
Once I have a better understanding of what you’re experiencing, I’ll ask you to show me your tongue and will take your pulse. These two observations help me pinpoint what needs to be addressed in your treatment.
You will then settle onto the treatment table and the session will begin. I always take the time to answer your questions—especially if it’s your very first time.
I use very fine, sterile, single-use needles that are gently inserted. They are then placed in a biomedical waste container.
Certaines personnes ne sentent absolument rien, d’autres perçoivent une petite sensation passagère (comme une petite piqûre de moustique). L’objectif est toujours que vous soyez confortable, détendu.e et en confiance.
A moment of calm and refocusing.
During the treatment, you’ll be comfortably positioned in a peaceful setting. Some people fall asleep, while others experience a deep sense of letting go or an inner flow.
It’s also very common to hear your stomach gurgling :
it’s a sign that your autonomic nervous system is relaxing and entering parasympathetic mode, a state conducive to recovery.
These sounds are even more frequent when working on the digestive system or if you have needles in your abdominal area. This moment is a time for yourself to refocus, breathe, and let go.
And then ?
After a treatment, it’s normal to feel a bit dazed by the end of the day.
— it’s often a sign that the nervous system has responded well.
Generally, people sleep very well at night after a session.
I recommend planning quieter, gentler activities after a treatment and avoiding intense exertion (unless the session was specifically intended to support physical performance).
How many sessions are recommended ?
Acupuncture works progressively and cumulatively. For lasting results, a certain frequency is often recommended :
For an acute imbalance : 3 to 5 sessions
For a chronic imbalance : 5 to 10 sessions
Of course, each case is unique. Some people experience relief very quickly, while others notice more gradual effects.
There’s no obligation to follow up, but many choose to return to deepen the work, support their balance, or prevent future imbalances.
Two locations to welcome you
I welcome you with care in Montreal at two warm, easily accessible locations :
On the Plateau Mont-Royal, just a short walk from Laurier Metro and close to Laurier Park.
In the Sud-Ouest (St-Henri), right across from the Lionel-Groulx Metro and just minutes from Atwater Market.
In conclusion
You are welcomed with attentive listening and gentleness.
The treatment is fully personalized.
You often leave feeling calmer, more centered, and relieved.
✨ And most importantly :
You don’t have to believe in acupuncture to experience its effects. What matters is what you feel in your body and mind.
And you often feel it within the first few minutes.
